Saitech Delivers High-Performance Gigabyte EPYC Servers for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Saitech Delivers High-Performance Gigabyte EPYC Servers for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Overview

Saitech delivered high-performance, storage-optimized servers to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) to support advanced research workloads requiring high coding throughput, sustained CPU performance, and reliable access to large research datasets.

The system was designed around a Gigabyte single-socket AMD EPYC platform and populated with enterprise-grade Samsung NVMe and SATA SSDs. Prior to shipment, the server was fully assembled, burn-in tested, and validated by Saitech to ensure stability under sustained computational load.

The Challenge

LBNL required a compact compute platform capable of supporting high coding and compilation throughput, along with data-intensive workflows typical of scientific research environments.

Key technical challenges included:

    • High single-thread and multi-thread CPU performance for code compilation and simulation workloads
    • Sustained performance under continuous load without thermal or power instability
    • Fast access to active datasets with high-capacity enterprise storage
    • Rack-dense 1U architecture
    • Pre-deployment validation to reduce early-life hardware failures

The Solution Architecture

Saitech delivered a Gigabyte SV-R133-C11-AAB1 1U server, purpose-built to meet LBNL’s performance and storage requirements.
